Sony Ericsson K610imSony Ericsson today announced the K610im, its first GSM/UMTS phone that fully supports i-mode™. The technology is a mobile network service that delivers a better experience for handling iMail, browsing the Internet and viewing content.

The i-mode™ service delivers a completely new experience in connected mobile applications such as iMail, Web browsing and iMMS. Viewing multimedia is better, faster and easier, thanks to Web pages and content specially formulated for i-mode. Lighter pages give faster download speeds and users are given access to a host of i-mode™ sites and content.

i-mode™ also helps making the most from the K610im’s generous features. Photos can be taken the phone’s 2 Megapixel camera and send them in high quality as an e-mail or an iMMS message. The supplied 64MB Memory Stick™ (M2™) will store up to 175 photos, and can be expanded to 1GB. The K610im also has everything required for fast, responsive video calling.

Aesthetically, the K610im should appeal to the design-conscious users who want a 3G phone that is as compact and lightweight as a trendy, traditional 2G handset. Sony Ericsson has managed to deliver full 3G functionality, a high quality camera and an intuitive music player, all in a phone that weighs just 89g.

The K610im’s advanced music player is equipped for direct downloads, and can store up to 60 tracks in the new eAAC+ format with the Memory Stick™ (M2™). A USB cable and music software is also included for transferring tracks easily between the phone and a PC.

The K610im is a dual mode UMTS (2100MHz) - GPRS 900/1800/1900 handset for i-mode markets in Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East. Shipments are expected to begin during the third quarter of 2006.
