MobestarMobestar, a UK-based provider of mobile video applications, announced that it has successfully made the world’s first international anonymous mobile video call. The call, supported by Mobestar’s Flexible Anonymous Communications Engine (FACE), was completed on Tuesday between Germany and the UK.

Previously, caller anonymity when making mobile-to-mobile video calls could not be guaranteed due to the technical and legal nature of European mobile networks. This prevented web communities from extending their online operations, such as online dating, into an increasingly popular mobile video arena.

Mobestar has overcome these technical obstacles with its FACE technology. Using FACE, all live calling between members of a mobile community is conducted in a secure and anonymous environment. FACE is available for existing 2G and 3G networks and is accessible through any compatible mobile phone, whenever a member wishes to use the service.

According to Jupiter Research, the European online dating market is currently worth €200 million and is forecast to grow 43% this year. Europe is expected to follow Japan’s footsteps, where mobile dating is becoming more popular than online.

Mobestar’s technology has been operational in-country for some time now,

said Peter Richards, CEO of Mobestar.

We have now delivered a service that is also available inter-country expanding our business proposition into the European market. Ours is the first working pan-European anonymous live mobile video calling system that has been demonstrated.
