Micro Technologies, a software firm based in India, has come up with a solution that allows users to track their lost mobile phone for just $8.
In order for a user to make their compatible phone trackable, they simply download the software to the phone. If the phone is ever stolen, the new “owner” will probably replace the SIM card, which is detected by the tracking system and subsequently the original owner is alerted via email or text message with the new number and approximate location.

Currently, most compatible phones are Nokia with support for a small number of Panasonic and Samsung handsets. In any case, the phone must be GPRS-enabled. According to Mukund Gupta, Micro’s chief of operations, the company has customers in India as well as in Britain and continental Europe.
