Helio, a joint venture between ISP EarthLink Inc. and Korea’s SK Telecom, has started selling two mobile phones that feature tight integration with the hugely popular social networking website, MySpace, in the US.
Users will be able to interact with MySpace in many ways, including blogging and direct posting of pictures taken with the fine built-in 2-megapixel camera. The phones; Hero and Kickflip, are loaded with all the features that can be expected from mid-range multimedia phones today.
Clearly, the phones’ features are aligned to match the interests of the young demographic that frequents MySpace, but the purchase price plus the monthly subscription fees may prove challenging to the average teenager. Currently, the phones cost around $250 and the cheapest plan costs $85/month. That is almost double the average mobile phone bill in the US, but the cost will most likely come down with time.
